My Seed Life

My name is Marshall Wittenberg. Previously, i lived in south central San Jose and then at the age of seven i moved to south San Jose, California. A couple months ago my parents planted some tomato seeds in the backyard. It took a few weeks for them to grow fully but then the plant grew really big and we had to trim it. Lily from my 9th grade science class has experience with a grape plant in which she used to go back there and just eat the grapes after, she would also have a "cooking show" with her grandma because her mom grew greens.

The Seed Passed Down

My name is Daniel Martinez. I was born and raised in San Jose, California. I have helped my grandfather grow a lemon tree. It was the first tree i have ever grown and taken care of, i still care for it to this day. I remember picking the first lemon from the tree and squeezing it in my mouth, it was the most sour taste of victory. My grandparents learned about gardening for food purposes and spices. They later taught me.

Not Much Experience

My name is Tomas Contreras. I'm originally I lived in Santa Clara, California. I moved to San Jose at the age of 11 with my mom, dad, 3 sisters and my grandma.I haven't really ever garden but my aunt knows how to and also knows how to take care of plants. I really don't know how to cook but my mom and sister love to cook. She doesn't grow any of the ingredients she needs tho. I want to learn to grow plants so i can grow my mom plants to she can cook with them.

My Family Tree

My name is Lily Dotzler and I am from San Jose, California. My family is from Chicago, Illinois and they moved to Silicon Valley just before my mom was born in 1966.

I haven't grown that much myself but I do enjoy helping my grandma garden. Her front yard is filled with fruit trees and many vegetables. Ever since I was 8, my grandma and I would pick fresh tomatoes and strawberries and put them in our salads. We would also pick other things like grapes, cucumbers, carrots, apples, peaches, etc. Typically after picking, my grandma and I would have our own "cooking show", we loved making salads from the freshly picked veggies. I love to cook just like my grandma, but I realized I don't use vegetables in my cooking very much, But now I hope to change that. I would say gardening is a big part of my family, my aunt loves growing fruit trees as well as my dad and my mom loves growing greens so this is something I am looking forward to doing.
